The Quartermaster: "He hath been found to be without innocence, and will accept the TIL, in its reverence, until he spaketh no more of his innocence, for his loathesome deeds spake for him. So be it!"
"I recall, as a young knave, in britches clad, with lofty air, my father took me to yon village clearing, where a man, a scribe of the Elders, was held in the stocks, already for four days long, naked and without cloth, awaiting despatch.
My father then spake, in quiet, such hallowed tone
"look yonder, dear son, this man is to meet his Maker, at noon, forthwith. Never forget his cause, lest this fate become ye, dear son. Mark my word, and mark it good, and forget it not ever, as ye live. Let not thy sky fall, for such dastardly deed".
At noon, the crowd did gather, the rain did come, and the stock wore heavy upon the man, and his arms did bleed, and his feet did bleed, from the constriction of the thing, and the rope.
And he cried.
4 burly men, dressed in dark cloth, taketh the wretch from the stock, he protesteth strong, his screams ever loud. But his pleas were to find no ear, his tears to fall on unfallowed ground, the place of beast, and vermin rife, rent asunder all, according to the Word.
And the TIL did begin, as the carve did begin, and the church bells did sound, and the carrion did fly, and the thunder did clap, and the crowd it did roar, and the women did weep, amid the cries of lament, from the man. O the pain! For so disfigured was he, for the carve did begin.
For forty days he did hang, in obtuse fashion found, and for seven days he did bleed, to show rebuke to all men, who dare to copy this cause, according to the Word.
They cut him then down, and dragged him then on, and so to the pit, and placed him with short shrift, in turf unmarked, in foreign field, where no man did go, and wild beast only did roam, with vermin aloof, where Wormwood did play, and hold court, so cold, in the night.
Be it clear, to all men, that the punishment apt, for such wicked cause, that this scribe doeth perform, upon such innocent babe.
And my father looked up, into the Heaven above, as we left that black place, and spake the word true, forever to heed:
"my son, mark my word, and mark it good, and forget it not ever, lest this fate become ye, dearest son, as ye live. For, it is the Word, and thus is, forever. Hear me well.....". [jg]
